1. I found this fellow at Longwood Gardens taking a bath and preening. When I started going through my images, I noticed it looked like he was crying...
2. Yesterday I had to stop and wait for a snapping turtle to cross over the road before I could move along with my morning commute. You just never know what you will see in these parts. It was covered in thick mud as if it had just emerged from hibernation (do turtles hibernate...I think they do) and I snapped this quick pic with my phone. My twins (5yo) were in the truck with me and I told them to NEVER approach a snapping turtle as they can bite a finger off with their sharp beak. By the time they were getting ready for bed last night the story had grown to "we saw a snap turtle today and we can't ever pet it because it will eat our HAND!" LOL.
3. Our neighbor has a new puppy called Naya. She is an adorable labradoodle who is being trained as a companion working dog. OMGoodness, that dog has quite the energy...remind me never to get a puppy again...it exhausts me just watching her!
4. This past week we have finally allowed our two horses back on the spring grass and they are very happy boys. We always have to wait for the pastures to grow and then cut it once or twice (the first grass is sooooo full of nutrients that it can make a horse very sick) before allowing them to eat it. The first few times they can only eat on it a few hours and then we increase the time over a few days until they are on it full time for the summer. They have sensitive tummies, those horses.
5. We had a brush with a horrible animal "mill" this past weekend...apparently the company Pocket Pets sells the beautiful creatures Sugar Bears or Sugar Gliders, which are exotic animals my oldest daughter has always wanted. They had a high pressure sales tactic and they made owning one sound perfect and I got suspicious. I told my daughter we had to wait and research a bit before deciding on owning another pet and thank goodness I listened to my gut. This company has 45 complaints against it with the BBB and many more online horror stories about it selling animals that are sick or too young and then the animals dying within days of purchase. The company only sells at malls for 2-3 days and the leaves town with your money and never replaces the animal and of course, leaves you and your children with a broken heart when the pet you fall in love with dies. I explained this to my heartbroken daughter and told her if she was serious about this we would have to talk to a reputable local breeder who happens to also be an exotic pet VET! (We have since decided this pet is NOT for us as it needs to much attention for our lifestyle.) So, buyer, beware! Keep your eye out for this company! xo Here is a news report about this company, but in the report it says it has a good standing with the BBB...that has changed since this news report aired!
